Posta is Holy Trinity's bi-monthly newsletter.
from the August 2003 issue:
July 18, 2003
Dear Friends,
Life is filled with transitions and changes. Although we like things to stay
the same, transition and change is a given and is true of all of our lives,
yours and mine. The next transition in my life is the ending of formal CPE training
on August 1. That will be followed by graduation on Wednesday, August 13, and
the ending of employment at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at the end of
August. Much as I have benefited from and enjoyed this intense time of learning
and reflection, I look forward to returning to a less scheduled life. In the
final weeks of class there is much writing to be done, so this will be brief.
In addition to the routine reports, I am writing a paper, "Blessed Are
Those Who Mourn" with the subtitle "I Believe in One God: the Blessed,
Holy, Undivided Trinity". The reason those two titles go together is that
I have come to realize that all our mourning is because we are not God. By that
I mean, that we cannot prevent death or sickness from happening or control ourselves
or our environment entirely and somehow we think that we ought to have been
able to do that. So we need to mourn our loses and failures and recognize again
and again that God is God and we are not. And of course the foundation of all
is to accept that God is LOVE even in the midst of death failure and loss.
As we enter into Fall some of the midweek feast day masses will be held in the
chapel in my home. This is part of the transition into having my home become
a small retreat center. You will hear more about that later.
May God lead us into mourning and show us His love.
Faithfully yours,
Mother Tina
~ Habitat for Humanity Update ~
Congratulations Holy Trinity! Once
again the parish members and friends of Holy Trinity have given very freely
and generously. Our donation this year for the Matthew 25 House was $1,020 dollars
and 1 dog biscuit. The following is an open letter from Nita (a lady with the
most beautiful smile and a member of the Matthew 25 House sponsor family) concerning
her and her families future home.
God Provides a Dream. “It’s been hard but we can see the light at the end of
the tunnel. Last Saturday, after working all day on the Youth House, we were
tired and covered with sawdust. I took my kids and stood on the actual lot where
we will build our house and they started to smile and see that all their work
was going to be worth it. We were getting our own home.”
‘When an American friend of the family visited my home and saw how crowded we
were and told me about Habitat, I didn't believe her, it was too good to be
true...I waited six months,” Nita continues, “but with my rent taking 3/4 of
my entire income ... I had to do something so I applied, started classes and
slowly started to see that this could happen for us!” Nita sat her children
down and told them that they had to work hard since they had 500 hours of Sweat
Equity to put in before they would get a house. Hammering nails, moving lumber,
organizing office files, cleaning lots ... all were eagerly done with the goal
clearly in mind.
And then, Thursday, May 15, Charlie Dixon, the Executive Director, took Nita
aside to tell her that she was getting her home in July. “I haven't slept much
since then,” Nita confesses, “God has provided the best for me ... a home, finally
hope of my very own bathroom, room for my children, close to my church ... I
am so grateful. I know that I have finished my Sweat Equity hours but you won't
get rid of me ... I want to help others like God helped me.”
If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jon Molnar at (574) 259-6419.
Happy Hammering!

As most
of you know, I am "helping" to raise my grandchildren, Cheyenne, Dakota,
Tristen and Dylan. Most Sundays, that's also the Sunday school class.
In March 2003, I joined a support group for grandparents who are raising their
own grandchildren. It's called G.A.P. Limited or Grandparents As Parents. Starting
in August we will be meeting at Holy Trinity, in the fellowship hall. Our meetings
are on Tuesday nights and they start at 6:30 p.m. Our first meeting will be
held on August 5th, 2003. Anyone who is helping to raise or is raising their
grandchildren or great-grandchildren is welcome to come to a meeting. You can
bring the kids, too.
We are planning a fun fair on September 6, 2003. It will be Saturday from 11:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We will have games and prizes and face painting. We will be
signing seniors up for the Hoosier RX program through AARP. We also invited
the candidates to meet with us. These are the people running for offices that
we vote on in November. Everyone is invited and bring your friends. This is
a fund raiser that will help G.A.P. and Holy Trinity together.
If you have any questions, call me at home at (574) 252-5853. See you at the
church—Kathy Milbourn
The LaSalle Area Neighborhood Center (LANA) and the Near Northwest Neighborhood will join together to participate in the National Afternoon Out at Muessel Grove Park from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5. The event is designed to promote crime, drug, and violence prevention and awareness, support local anticrime programs and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available for $1.
Both of these centers are in the neighborhood of Holy Trinity Parish. It would be wonderful for parishioners to participate in this worthy event.
